Community Oral Health Services
Submitted by: Debi Diaz, Executive Director
Community Oral Health will use Network funds to purchase toothbrushes to distribute to families in need. They will pursue their mission of ensuring children living in Monterey County do not suffer from unnecessary dental pain and infection and are healthy and ready to learn in school.
Due to recent budget reductions from both State and local sources, Community Oral Health (CHOS) has not been able to offer toothbrushes to many of the families we provide oral health outreach and education to for their young children. Many families who seek services from our Mobile Dental Clinics and our outreach education programs cannot afford to purchase toothbrushes for each member of their family. They often share toothbrushes among family members. Knowing that cavities are contagious and spread by bacteria from close family contact via shared toothbrushes and other poor oral hygiene practices it is critical that we get toothbrushes in the hands of our target populations in addition to good prevention education to reduce the prevalence of dental disease in our community. Millions of taxpayer dollars are spent each year to treat a disease that is almost 100% preventable – cavities. http://www.communityoralhealth.com/ |

Salinas Circle for Children
Submitted by: Michelle Chisum, Volunteer, Past President
Salinas Circle for Children will use Network funds to expand their website to include a “needs board” for teachers and families to post wants and needs or to exchange unused toys and tools that are specifically used for emotionally, physically, mentally and developmentally disabled children. This would allow these exceptional children (age 0-21) to thrive in their living and learning environment. http://www.salinascircle.org/
